Christopher Lindinger will open "Technology and Digital Arts Meeting", the theme day on 27 November, which is firmly oriented towards creativity. He manages the research and development department (Futurelab) of the Ars Electronica platform in Linz, Austria. This workshop laboratory brings together artists and researchers who gain mutual innovative benefits from sharing their knowledge.

CINTEL, a Colombian telecommunications research center, organized an international workshop devoted to digital television in conjunction with Images et Réseaux on 7 July in the Colombian capital. This workshop was a chance to take stock of the possibilities opened up by digital television and of the market prospects. It was also used to reinforce relations with Colombia and to promote our expertise in the field of innovation.

By a decision of the cluster's Board, from now on the name "Images et Réseaux" will apply in English as well as in French. The use of a unique name is intended to increase the cluster public relation efficiency and its international visibility. The name "Media and Networks cluster" so far used in our international relations will no longer be used after July 1st, 2009. Our partners must now get used to saying "Images et Réseaux cluster".

The ceremony on Wednesday 24 June in Rennes, which also brought together the Mer Bretagne and Valorial competitiveness clusters, witnessed the signing of the new performance contract between the Images et Réseaux cluster, the State and Brittany's Regional authorities. It is based on a strategic plan of action for the 2009-2011 period, which sets out four major paths for development.

The chairmen of the 17 French world-class competitiveness clusters, who linked up to form a club in 2007, held a press conference to set out their priority goals on Friday 12 June in Paris. They are asking for an extra 900 million euros to be injected into French industry to give it renewed impetus.

The theme day on 9 June organized in Lannion in partnership with the Anticipa technology park and Meito explored several directions for scenarios for the future of Internet. A multifaceted Internet of the Future, which the Images et Réseaux cluster has made one of its four major strategies for the next three years, and which will be the focus of other events in the future.

World premier: On 2 June, Mozart's chef d'oeuvre, Don Giovanni, performed at the Rennes Opera has been filmed and broadcast live in 3D in the lounges of the Town Hall in Rennes and several 3D cinemas in France. The Don Giovanni Opera originating from the Opera house has been also broadcast in HD and SD format in several places in Rennes. Large crowds had gathered over the Town Hall square to enjoy the show.

"A highly concentrated seminar", "fascinating discussions"... Participants were unanimous in their tributes to the exceptional quality of the Imagine 2015 seminar held on 28 and 29 May. The third futurology seminar of the Images et Réseaux cluster was focused on sustainable development, one of the cluster's designated priority themes for next three years. And it is clear that everyone's enthusiasm for this theme, and the quality of the seven Expert Guests invited to take part, made these 24 hours spent together a resounding success.

The theme day on May 19, entitled "Multicore processors, inside information", delivered a wide-ranging review of the question. The upshot was that much is still to be done - and that there is immense scope for research - to optimize the development of software applications that make the most of the new architectures.

On 27 and 28 April, the Images & Réseaux cluster welcomed a Russian delegation led by Alexander Zharov, Vice-minister of communication and networks in the Russian Federation. On 27 March, the Images et Réseaux cluster signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CINTEL, a Colombian telecommunications research centre. The agreement set out three directions for research work that have yet to be worked out in detail. The signature was sponsored by two personalities. For France it was Anne-Marie Idrac, Secretary of State responsible for International Trade and for Colombia it was Maria del Rosario Guerra, Minister of communications.

A group of five French researchers has won the 2007 Rudolf Kingslake Medal and Prize, awarded annually by SPIE (Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers) for the most noteworthy original paper to appear in the SPIE journal Optical Engineering.

The European NEM technology platform held its first big international conference on 13, 14 and 15 October this year in Saint-Malo, France. Organized by NEM in close collaboration with the Images et Réseaux cluster, the conference attracted more than 400 participants who came to discuss networked and electronic media, and the Internet of the Future.

The Panlab project to link distributed test platforms in Europe is taking shape. Two events have occurred in a short time: the official launch of the second phase of the project during the month of June, and the start of the ImaginLab project in July, which schedules the creation of one of the platforms at the heart of the project.

Boston Consulting Group and CM International have just submitted an audit on competitive clusters to the French government. The government considers the Images et Réseaux cluster to be among those that have achieved their objectives and proposes to upgrade it to the category of global-class clusters.
