A world-leading cluster

Imagine 2015: another approach to futurology

In 2007, the Images et Réseaux cluster initiated a bold futurology approach called Imagine 2015. It is based upon seminars to which Expert Guests are invited. These guests are key figures known for their expertise in various fields, often far removed from the cluster's usual subjects. This approach is intended to enrich the Images et Réseaux cluster's vision of the future.

This futurology program consists of several parts:

Seminars

Each Imagine 2015 seminar gathers an average of six Expert Guests coming from a wide range of horizons. It lasts over 24 hours, round the clock, from noon to midday. Debates
are led in a voluntarily loose way, with only few guidelines to be followed or topics to be addressed. Most of the inputs are initiated by the witnesses themselves, in accordance with their own perception of what should currently be regarded as possibly tenuous but noteworthy signs of change, nascent trends, significant events or landmarks.

Workshops

The discussion is the raw material that is analyzed after the seminar. From this material, a few key ideas are extracted. Each of these ideas then acts as a springboard for further reflection. Workshops are then organized to bring together the members of the cluster and, possibly, one or two Expert Guests. These workshops enable the participants to take things one step further, and consider research and development projects.

Imagine 2015, a strategy for opening up to the world

Imagine 2015, May 27-28 2010, Rennes

The next Imagine 2015 Seminar will be held in Rennes. Season 4 theme: "Better communicate, doing business differently ? Let us reinvent the tools-enterprise-team-society relationship."

The Expert Guests

The 3rd edition of this event has been held on May 28 and 29 in Rennes. It has focus on a facet of sustainable development that is often overlooked: “Images and Communication in a Sustainable Society: Changing our Models to Change Behaviours”. In a society where images and communication are becoming omnipresent, how can we change our attitudes, lifestyles and behaviours to help build a more equitable, harmonious and sustainable world? This question will be the focus of the debates.

This exciting seminar brung together seven “Expert Guests”, each an acknowledged expert in his or her field. These men and women, from diverse horizons including anthropology, psychology, multimedia content, ecology, communication, high performance computing and business strategy, are all involved in in-depth reflections on building a sustainable society.

Images et Réseaux cluster uses the intellectually stimulating outcomes from Imagine 2015 seminars to inspire its research and development projects. This 3rd edition will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss issues relating to changing the world to ensure sustainability. It will also be the occasion to identify new technological challenges and discuss how to meet them responsibly.

The second Imagine 2015 seminar went one step further from the first edition by exploring changing individual and collective behaviour in response to the permanent and generalized access to information and media.

Around sixty participants were present to hear six Expert Guests:

  • Nicolas Nova, researcher and futurologist,
  • Pascal Wattiaux, consultant in the world of global events such as the Olympic Games and the Soccer World Cup,
  • Pierre Musso, philosopher and University Professor,
  • Stéphane Martin, President of the French television advertising union and an attentive observer of digital media,
  • Frédérick Brousseau-Gauthier, a student from Quebec for whom, at the age of 16, the network and technologies are tools for cultural, theatrical, political and educational action,
  • the futurologist Thierry Gaudin.

Perception and emotion had been the key words in the first Imagine 2015 seminar. It gathered some 35 participants and five Expert Guests:

  • Thierry Gaudin, engineer and futurologist,
  • Bernard Renaud, neurobiologist that operates in the field of cognitive neurosciences,
  • Clino Trini Castelli, Italian designer,
  • Antoine Simkine, film producer,
  • Jean-Michel Cornu, Chief Scientist of the Next Generation Internet Foundation (FING).
