Financing projects

Funding of R&D projects is managed by several organizations that are backed by the State. Local government bodies and the European Union also contribute to supporting innovation.

To obtain funding, research and development projects with the Images et Réseaux cluster label must be put before the financing organizations. The latter make the decision to select or reject the application in accordance with their own specific criteria. The Images et Réseaux label is a guarantee of quality that makes a favorable decision more likely.

A list of the main contributors for project financing is given below.
 

The French Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR)

The ANR supports advanced research projects, with a high proportion of upstream research. It selects the projects to be funded amongst the applications made in response to its calls for proposals.

The French Fonds unique interministériel (FUI)

The FUI funds collaborative R&D projects from competitive clusters. It supports applied research projects concerning the development of products or services likely to be put on the market in the short to medium term.

Oséo

Oséo is a State-run public establishment responsible for funding and aiding SMEs.

Europe, particularly with FP7

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is the European Union's biggest technological research and development investment programme. It aims to organize and financially support cooperation between universities, research centers and industry, including SMEs. It is a long-term programme. FP7 covers the 2007-2013 period.

The Eureka programme

Eureka is an initiative independent from European Union programmes, associating 38 countries, most of which are European Union members. Eureka supports innovative transnational projects proposed by manufacturers. It provides a label that favors the award of national funding for each partner.

Eureka has defined some strategic fields, called clusters, which concentrate most of the funding:
 

  • CELTIC, for telecommunications.
  • ITEA2, for Middleware software.
  • CATRENE, for nanoelectronics.
  • EURIPIDES, for microsystems, interconnections and packaging.
  • Eurostars, dedicated to SMEs.

The Joint Technological Initiatives (JTI)

The ENIAC and ARTEMIS Joint Technological Initiatives are new forms of public-private partnerships associating manufacturers, member States and the European Commission, to support cooperative R&D activities, in the nanoelectronics and onboard data processing systems fields respectively.
