Images et Réseaux Cluster Themes

To invent the most relevant and promising products and services in the field of new digital content and Future Internet, Images et réseaux is faced with a dual challenge:

Technological Innovation

Anticipating, inventing and controlling the convergence of technologies, content, services and media, to be at the forefront of innovation.

“Uses and Markets” Innovation

Understanding the future needs of consumers, users and professionals to build the best solutions and economic models, from the standpoint of sustainable and responsible development.

Hence Media & Networks’ original approach to defining its themes and organizing its activities: combining two inseparable aspects, one based on the value chain (technologies, content, products and services), the other based on uses.

Personal uses, for private and family use Uses for professional and educational purposes Uses related to social networking, sharing, exchanging, enrichment, etc. entails everything that makes it possible to create, publish, distribute and interact with all types of digital content involves artistic and technical creation, production of content and services, publishing, processing, aggregation and protection operations, and the related tools required to create "distributable" content covers all the functions necessary for delivering content from provider to end users covers the processing chain related to the activity of the users of innovative devices and services

Technological innovation and "Uses & Markets" innovation in the field of audiovisual content and new media

The “Uses” aspects looks at how people will use the products and services imagined by the Images et Réseaux project teams. This involves three main types of uses of new digital content and media in :

  • The Personal sphere: Personal uses, for private and family use.
  • The Professional sphere: Uses for professional and educational purposes.
  • The Community sphere: Uses related to social networking, sharing, exchanging, enrichment, etc.

The “Value chain” aspect (Technologies / Content / Products / Services) covers a vast range of methods, techniques and tools to enable new forms of communication and exchange of digital content:

  • Enable entails everything that makes it possible to create, publish, distribute and interact with all types of digital content.
Primary components: security (resources, content, uses), hardware and software architecture, onboard systems, man-machine interfaces (virtual reality, augmented reality, etc.)
  • Create & Publish involves artistic and technical creation, production of content and services, publishing, processing, aggregation and protection operations, and the related tools required to create “distributable” content.
All types of content are involved: training, on demand services, films, interactive fictions, TV programs, games, music, radio, web, etc.
  • Distribute covers all the functions necessary for delivering content from provider to end users.
The primary objective: anticipating and innovating for networks (telecommunication, distribution, etc.) and the technologies of the future, including optics, radio, digital communications and the move towards new generation network architectures.
  • Interact covers the processing chain related to the activity of the users of innovative devices and services.
This includes new methods and devices (terminals, new interfaces, etc.) for interfacing with the users as they interact with the services and the content.

The theme table that combines the value chain and the uses replaced the previous eight themes defined by the Images et Réseaux cluster to structure research and development.
