The Cluster at the 2nd TV Mobile Conference

The Image on the Move is one of the strong topics of the Media and Networks Cluster, with all its importance in terms of personal television and future mobile interactive multimedia services.

The International Conference TV MOBILE - in Lorient on 28 and 29 September, www.conference-tv-mobile.com, is at the core of convergence of telecommunications services and audiovisual distribution.

Of great current interest around the world, this development is based on various scientific advances and standardization work in which members of the Brittany academic and commercial communities have played a decisive, recognized role. Advances, for example, like COFDM, the MPEG2 and MPEG4 codecs, DVB standards and turbo codes.

Three demonstrations on the Media and Networks Cluster stand

Mobimage: First of the major projects launched through the cluster, bringing together 18 partners, representing the range of expertise required for realization of a major project: content providers (France Télévisions, Ouest France Multimedia, Le Télégramme), operators and commercial enterprises (France Télécom (R&D et Viaccess), TDF,  Alcatel, Thomson, SMEs/start-ups (Enensys, Envivio, Iwedia, Silembia, Streamezzo, Teamcast) and academic establishments (ENST Bretagne, IETR).

The objective of Mobim@ges is to demonstrate protoypes of innovative services, taking the advantage of the coupling of a terrestrial TV distribution network and a mobile telecommunications network. It is based on an experimental platform composed of the usable elements (DVB-H distribution chain, 2.5G/3G network, servers, terminals).

This project goes beyond the piloted distribution of TV on mobile devices in South-East Asia or in Europe. The aim is to catch up with and even overtake the countries that are at the top of this area (Korea, Japan) and to blaze the trail for multiservice offerings (or multiplay) (from 3 - 5 years, integrating interactive mobile TV services.

Above, TDF demonstration

"TV goes mobile" with TDF, demonstrating distribution of television channels, a service guide and data services usable by all exponents, reception of programs and services broadcast via DVB-H on various end-devices (Sagem, BenQ, Qtek, Dell PDA, etc.)
A SME member of the cluster, Digidia, demonstrated "Mobile TV" applications with solutions that use the T-DMB and DAB-IP solutions.

Mobimagin is a showcase that gives exposure to the capabilities of six SMEs located in Brittany, showing how they can work together. A large portion of their sales are realised on an international stage, and the companies demonstrate a group of technologies that cover all basic stages of the DVB-H chain, from broadcast to reception.
